A post-pandemic staple: ‘It’s impossible to find good help.’
That may be true for some. But this is me not agreeing. I work with this guy-Nick. And working with Nick is a pleasure.
Nick is incredibly knowledgeable about beer. He is as supremely geeky about beer as I am about wine. But he is also well-versed in wine. And spirits. You can trust his recommendations. Better yet, he knows how to make recommendations. He’s able to serve the customer who wants the two sentence description, the customer who wants encyclopedic knowledge, and the myriad of customers somewhere between those two extremes. Even the customer who has no time for any description and wants to just be handed the right bottle.
And then he is lovely to work alongside. Nick has a wonderfully dry sense of humor. He’s utterly devoid of unnecessary drama. And he believes-as I do- that you don’t need to agree 100% of the time, but it’s important to be able to have intelligent discussions. It has been a joy to work with him the last 4+ years.
All of which makes me incredibly glad that when I leave Pour Richard’s, Nick is staying.
But that’s still a ways off (Town Council issues…) Meanwhile, Nick’s on vacation this week, which means I’ll be around more. I wouldn’t want to be lonely or bored, so I’m running some fun sales Monday through Friday. We’ll post them on social media, so stay tuned. Nick will be back on Saturday. I’ll be glad to see him.
